In order to address the student grievances and send them reminder as well as connecting with them, the UGC has recently launched a new portal. This portal would keep a track on the action status that would be taken to any of the concerns registered by the students. If a student faces any problem regarding admissions, reservation schemes, discrimination on the grounds of caste or class or even non-declaration of results, the students could complain about the same in the portal-www.ugc.ac.in.

This new portal of UGC got launched by HRD Minister Smriti Irani in New Delhi. The portal would also take in complaints related to sexual harassment, student victimization, lack in hostel or infrastructure amenities and failure of scholarship payments by the administration. These complains could be filed online and hence there is no need to be physically present while complaining.

According to the HRD Ministry, “The aim of the portal is to ensure transparency in admission and curbing unfair practices in higher education institutions and provide effective mechanism for redressal of the grievances.”

In order to make the portal strong and the mechanism effective, the ministry has planned to appoint a nodal officer for redressal of grievances for every university. These officers would take care of the grievances lodged by the students in the affiliated colleges. After registering a complaint in the portal, the complainant could see the email ID, cell phone number and other contact details of the respective nodal officers, so that they could further get in touch with each other.  The nodal officers would be time bound to solve the grievances launched by the students and an automatic reminder would be sent to him/her every two weeks to act into the matter effectively and quickly.
