UGC on 19 February 2013 released list of candidates for the award of fellowship for the year 2012-13 under the scheme of Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship for SC/ST Candidates during financial year 2012-13. A total of 2667 candidates from Schedule Caste and Schedule Tribe were selected for the fellowship.
The Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship (RGNF) Scheme for SC and ST is formulated and funded by Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment and Ministry of Tribal Affairs. The fellowship will cover all Universities/ Institutions recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & section 3 of the UGC Act. However candidates should note that this fellowship would be available to only those SC/ST candidates who desire to pursue research without JRF of UGC-NET or UGC-CSIR NET.
The scheme has been initiated keeping in view the social background of the candidates for the deprived section of the society and to provide them opportunity to undertake advanced studies and research. The scheme is open to candidates who belong to SC & ST who wish to pursue higher studies such as regular and full time MPhil and PhD degrees in Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences, and Engineering & Technology.
