Vellore Institute of Technology University (VIT University) Vellore is all set to offer India's first BTech Degree programme with two major subjects, Engineering and Management, from the academic year 2012.
Within the new BTech programme, students can opt for regular Engineering majors or an Engineering subject as the first major and a Management subject as the second one.
Students opting for a BTech degree with two majors can still complete the degree programme in 4 years if they devote two of the summer sessions to complete the requirements for the second major. The students have to devote the summer session, one at the end of the 2nd year and the other at the end 3rd year.
For the Management course, they will have to take ten extra subjects in one of the following management programs: Human Resources, Marketing, Finance, and General Management.
The decision had been taken to meet the industry's need of Engineering Graduates with a basic background in Management. The dual BTech degree will not only help the students with job opportunities but will also help them in transferring of credits towards Masters Degree in international institutions.
VIT University was founded in 1984 and was conferred with the University status in 2001 by the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act, 1956. The institution offers 18 undergraduate and 34 postgraduate programmes.
