Bihar on 5 October 2012 observed Dolphin Day. This day was observed in wake of spreading awareness for conservation of the Gangetic Dolphins the rare and endangered species that is found only in the Gangetic River System and its Tributaries.

Bihar that observed the World Wildlife Week from 2 to 8 October 2012, decided to observe 5 October as Dolphin Day every year. Sushil Kumar Modi, the Deputy Chief Minister of the state on this occasion declared that the state will come up with a Dolphin Watch Center at places where these rare aquatic species are seen.
