The Assam government inked an agreement with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on 9 March 2012. As per the agreement the ADB would grant an 81 million dollar loan to Assam government.

The first tranche of Assam Urban Infrastructure Investment Program (AUIIP) is aimed at providing clean, piped water to about 350000 residents of Guwahati and upgrade wastewater treatment and urban transport in the state.

The 81 million dollar loan would be used to develop urban infrastructure in the state. It would help Assam government with long-term funding for urban development.
