Bjorn Isberg named as Tournament Director of 2016 Hockey India League

Sweden's Bjorn Isberg on 30 December 2015 was appointed as the Tournament Director of Coal India Hockey India League (HIL), the premier league for hockey in India.

On the other hand, Muthukumar Balakrisnan from Malaysia was given the role of the Assistant Tournament Director in the 4th edition of the Coal India Hockey India League.

Andy Mair from Scotland was named as the umpire's manager for the league.

About Bjorn Isberg

• The 50 year-old Isberg has conducted many events over years as Tournament Director including Olympic Games 2012 in London, three FIH Champions Trophy tournaments including Lahore in 2004, Kuala lumpur in 2007 and Auckland in 2011 and FIH Indoor World Cup 2011 in Poland.

• He has also worked as an Assistant Tournament Director at the Olympic Games 2008 in Beijing and two FIH World Cups including Germany in 2006 and India in 2010.

Coal India HIL is scheduled to be held across six venues across the country from 10 January 2016 to 21 February 2016.

The tournament will witness six franchises:

• Jaypee Punjab Warriors
• Delhi Waveriders
• Kalinga Lancers
• Uttar Pradesh Wizards
• Dabang Mumbai
• Ranchi Rays

• Hockey India League (HIL) is a professional league for field hockey competition in India.

• It is organised by Hockey India.

• The tournament was originally contested in the first season among five franchisee-based teams consisting of players from India and around the world.

• The event is sanctioned by the International Hockey Federation (FIH).
