The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) established a Sport Integrity Unit on 15 April 2014 to investigate the cases related to fraud in sports. Betting and Match fixing are the most common cases of sports fraud.
CBI had held discussions with officials of International Cricket Council (ICC) and Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) before setting up the unit.
Objective of this Unit
• combating malpractices in sports
• coordinating with sports federations and law enforcement agencies
• investigating and inquiring into matters related to sports fraud
International Scenario
Internationally, the Australian Federal Police, Federal Bureau of Investigation (United States), some European countries has established special dedicated units to investigate with cases of sports fraud.
