China made sexual assault on men a crime
The decision was taken to curtail growing incidents of sexual assault among partners of gay relationship.
In China, sexual assault of men was declared a crime with effective from 31 October 2015. In this regard, an amendment to sexual assault laws was approved by the National People’s Congress, country’s central legislature, in August 2015.
As per the amendment, indecent assault on men or women now carries a minimum sentence of five years in prison.
Earlier, sexual offenders on men were punished under the charges of intentional injury and were given punishment up to 12 months in prison.
The amendment to criminal laws became necessary to curtail growing incidents of sexual assault among partners of gay relationship.
As per a recent survey of state-run Global Times of People’s Daily, gay and lesbian culture is fast spreading in China.
