SAD pulls out of NDA alliance over farm reform bills

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), one of the oldest allies of the BJP-led NDAL alliance, has decided to pull out from the alliance in protest against the passing of the farm reform bills. The move comes just a few days after SAD leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal quit the union cabinet as Food Processing Minister over the agriculture bills. The decision was taken unanimously at the core committee meeting of SAD, which was presided over by SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal.
The meeting is reported to have lasted for over three hours. Besides the Centre's stance on the agriculture bills, the party also discussed the centre’s continued insensitivity to Punjabi and Sikh issues like not including the Punjabi language in the list of official languages in Jammu and Kashmir".
SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal said while addressing the media later that the party will continue to stand by its core principles of peace, communal harmony and guarding the interest of Punjab, Punjabis, Sikhs and farmers. He stated that the decision to pull out from the NDA was taken in consultation with the people of Punjab, especially party workers and farmers.
The SAD Chief called the bills on agricultural marketing brought by the government as "lethal and disastrous" for the already beleaguered farmers.

RBI postpones MPC meet on key interest rates

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has rescheduled the meeting of its Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), which was to be held from September 29 to October 1, 2020.
The new dates are expected to be announced shortly, informed the apex bank in a brief statement on September 28, 2020. As per experts, the RBI is expected to keep key interest rates on hold until early 2021 to maintain a balance between curbing high inflation and lifting the economy from its worst recession in decades.
There are doubts over quick economic recovery with COVID-19 spreading faster in India than the rest of the world. India’s GDP growth fell by 23.9 percent in the first quarter, from April to June, of the current financial year 2020-21.
In its last meeting, the RBI had held its main repo rate at 4 percent and said it will keep its policy accommodative in the view of rising inflation and faint signs of economic growth amid the gradual lifting of countrywide lockdown.

Government initiates probe into alleged dumping of pharma product from China

The Government of India has initiated a probe into the alleged dumping of Ceftriaxone Sodium Sterile by China. Ceftriaxone Sodium Sterile is a pharma raw material.
The Nectar Life Sciences and Sterile India has filed an application regarding the same before the Commerce Ministry's investigation arm Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) . The domestic manufacturers have also sought a probe into matter.
The applicants have contended that material injury is being caused to the domestic industry due to dumped imports from China. They have requested the imposition of anti-dumping duty on the import of the raw material.
The Directorate General of Trade Remedies will now determine the existence, degree and effect of alleged dumping in respect of the product from China. If DGTR finds that there is a dumping of the product that is impacting domestic manufacturers then, it will recommend the amount of anti-dumping duty.
Dumping of a product happens when a country or a firm exports an item at a price lower than the price of that product in its domestic market.
