1. (b) 1966

The year 1966 was the last time before 2021 when India did not host any Head of State during the Republic Day parade. It was in 1966 when the then Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri had suddenly died in Tashkent and new PM Indira Gandhi was sworn in just two days before Republic day, on January 24, 1966.

2. (a) Roberta Metsola

Maltese lawmaker Roberta Metsola was chosen as the new President of European Parliament on January 18, 2022. She has become the only third woman to head the European Parliament. The 43-year-old will also become the youngest president ever to run the chamber. She takes over at a time of mourning for the legislature after the sudden passing of its President David Sassoli.

The NDRF Raising Day is observed by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) every year on January 19. This year, the day marks the celebration of the 17th NDRF Raising Day.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was formed in 2006. Every year the day is observed as the NDRF Raising Day. The NDRF Raising Day highlights the role of the NDRF personnel for their help and assistance during disaster situations in India.

In a tragic incident, there was an explosion in an internal compartment onboard INS Ranvir at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai on January 18, 2022. Three naval personnel lost their lives in the accident and over 11 were injured.

The Union Health Ministry in its revised ‘Clinical Guidance for Management of Adult COVID-19 Patients’ has advised testing for Tuberculosis if cough persists for more than 2-3 weeks and also avoiding the use of the steroid. The health ministry has added active tuberculosis as a high-risk factor that can potentially cause severe disease and even mortality in COVID-19 patients.

UBS bank has won the right to repossess and sell fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya’s home in London where he stays with his son Sidhartha and 95-year-old mother Lalitha. This means that Mallya will be evicted from his home. This could be a huge progress in Vijay Mallya's extradition case.
