The World Economic Forum (WEF) has recently presented the Global Gender Gap Index 2024 report. Compared to last year, India has slipped two places this year to 129th position. Iceland, which has been at the top position for the last decade, has retained its first position this year as well. Among India's neighbouring countries, Bangladesh (99), Nepal (111), Sri Lanka (125) and Bhutan (124) are ranked ahead of India. Whereas Pakistan is at 145th position.

  1. (a) Arunachal Pradesh

Pema Khandu took oath as the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh for the third consecutive time. He was recently elected leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party Legislative Party. He was sworn in by Governor Lieutenant General (Retired) KT Parnayak at a ceremony. Along with Khandu, 10 other ministers also took oath.    

  1. (a) Professor Devendra Lal

Recently, the International Astronomical Union (IAU) has named three new craters located within the Tharsis volcanic region on Mars after India's science community and Indian places. The largest crater has been named "Lal Crater" in honour of Professor Devendra Lal. The Mursan Crater is named after the Mursan town in Uttar Pradesh, India, while the Hilsa Crater is named after the Hilsa town in Bihar, India.

The World Bank has recently released the Container Port Performance Index (CPPI) in collaboration with S&P Global Market Intelligence. The CPPI is based on a comprehensive dataset of 405 ports around the world, the largest dataset ever compiled. Let us tell you that Visakhapatnam Port Authority has secured 18th position in this ranking.

  1. (b) IIT Madras

Researchers from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) and NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) are researching multidrug-resistant pathogens on the International Space Station (ISS). The collaborative effort between IIT Madras and NASA's JPL will advance scientific knowledge and promote international partnerships.

The G7 (Group-7) summit is being organised in Italy. The G7 is an intergovernmental political and economic forum consisting of France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. G7 was established in 1975. Russia was included in the G8 when it was created in the late 1990s, but it was suspended in 2014 after the annexation of Crimea.
