1. (a) Joy Goswami
Eminent Bengali poet Joy Goswami has been chosen for the 31st Moortidevi Award for the year 2017 for his poetry collection titled “Du Dondo Phowara Matro”. It is an autobiographical account of the poet’s life featuring his close ones including a pet cat.
2. (b) G Satheesh Reddy
G. Satheesh Reddy, the scientific adviser to Defence Minister and Director General of Missiles and Strategic Systems, was conferred with the prestigious National Design Award. He bagged this award for his significant national contribution towards indigenous design and development of diversified missile systems, guided weapons, avionics technologies.

The 56th Liberation Day of Goa was celebrated with great pomp & show in Panaji on 19 December 2017. Several programmes and events have been organised to mark the occasion. The state was liberated on this day in 1961 from Portuguese control after almost 450 years of colonial rule.

8. (d) National Green Tribunal
National Green Tribunal (NGT) Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar retired from the post after completing his five-year tenure. During his tenure as NGT chief, he passed several landmark orders and judgements including ban on 10- year-old diesel and 15-year-old petrol vehicles, the slew of directions for rejuvenation of the Ganga and Yamuna, the demolition of illegal hotels in Himachal Pradesh and the ban on plastic items in Delhi, Haridwar and Punjab.

The Jokapatha village is located in Chhattisgarh's Balrampur district. In September 2017, PM Modi had launched a Rs 16320-crore scheme - Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana 'Saubhagya' - to provide electrical connections to over 4 crore families in rural and urban areas by December 2018.
10. (a) International Human Solidarity Day
The UN General Assembly on 22 December 2005 identified solidarity as one of the fundamental and universal values that should underlie relations between peoples in the Twenty-first century. In this regard, it decided to proclaim 20 December of as International Human Solidarity Day.
11. (d) Sri Lanka
Indian navy in collaboration with the Sri Lankan Navy on 19 December 2017 successfully completed the second phase of the joint oceanographic survey conducted off the South Western Coast of Sri Lanka. The survey charts were handed over to the Commander of the Sri Lankan Navy.

Iraq overtook Saudi Arabia for the first time to become India's top crude oil supplier in the current fiscal. Saudi Arabia traditionally has been India's top oil source but in the April-October period of 2017-18, Iraq dethroned it, supplying 25.8 million tonnes (MT) of oil.
