A recent poll released on Wednesday revealed concerning data about Delhi NCR. It found that 75% of families in the region have at least one person suffering from a respiratory condition. Common issues include coughs, sore throats, and other related ailments. The findings highlight the serious impact of the area's worsening air quality.
According to news agency PTI, the study, which was carried out by the online community platform LocalCircles, emphasizes the serious health effects of increasing pollution levels in the capital city, where the air quality remained in the "severe" category.
75% Delhites Affected by Air Pollution
Responses were gathered from over 21,000 people in Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Faridabad, and Ghaziabad. Of the participants, 63% were men, and 37% were women. The survey revealed that 58% of families reported headaches, while half had a member struggling with asthma or breathing problems.
Additionally, 27% of families are now using air purifiers, up from 18% last month. Meanwhile, 23% admitted to taking no precautions, and others focused on improving their immunity through diet changes
AQI Crossed 1000 in Some Areas
A recent LocalCircles survey highlights how Delhi NCR residents are dealing with severe air pollution, as AQI levels hit record highs this week, with PM2.5 levels reaching 1500 in some areas—comparable to living in a gas chamber.
50% Government Employees to WFH
In spite of the stringent regulations enforced by authorities under Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) Stage-IV, which forbids the use of diesel-powered medium and heavy cargo vehicles and construction activities, this dire scenario has forced families to look into coping techniques. In Delhi, 50% of government employees have been asked to work from home, and schools have also been moved to an online format.
Concerning Trend in Illness
The study also found a concerning increase in pollution-related health problems. The proportion of families with at least one ill family member increased from 69% on November 1 to 75% on November 19, demonstrating the direct impact of deteriorating air quality on public health.
