The eBay Inc on 8 December 2010 released its third of its census report, eBay India Census 2010. The census is a compilation of interesting facts and trends about the online buying and selling patterns across India. The census assessed the commercial activities on the site for a period between July 2009 and June 2010. According to the census Indian entrepreneurs sold the most books, fashion accessories, skin-care products, Indian stamps, PC games, movie DVDs, belly-dancing apparel, bed sheets and motorcycle parts to the rest of the world through eBay.

The top five e-commerce hubs in the country are Delhi, followed by Mumbai, Jaipur, Chennai and Bangalore. The report estimated the number of e-commerce hubs in India to be 3296 and highlighted that the number was growing rapidly. The number of Indian rural towns that shopped online increased from 747 in 2009 to 1054 in 2010. According to eBay India’s top five rural hubs are- Ambalapuzha in Kerala, Sajiyavadar and Adala in Gujarat, Abdalipur in West Bengal and Kangayampalayam in Tamil Nadu. The e-commerce business in India is reported to be growing at 30-35% year-on-year while the growth in developed markets was in single-digits since the slowdown.
