The Himachal Pradesh assembly celebrated its Golden Jubilee on 24 May 2013. On the occasion, the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee will become the second president to address special session of HP assembly in Shimla.
In the year 2004, the former President of India, APJ Abdul Kalam addressed the Himachal Pradesh assembly but during that time, the session of the state assembly was in progress.
Himachal Pradesh assembly is nestled in the historic building known as Council Chambers. It is the same place where the central assembly during the British Raj was held as well as inaugurated by Lord Reading on 27 August 1925. Lord Reading was the then viceroy of India.
The Speaker of the Himachal Pradesh assembly is Brij Bihari Lal Butail. Pranab Mukherjee will address the special session of the HP state assembly, after which he will go to Indian Institute of Advanced Studies (IIAS) where Rabindra Nath Tagore centre-cum-museum will be inaugurated.
