On ..July 2010, India and Mauritius signed four agreements during the visit of Indian external affairs Minister S.M. Krishna’s visit to Mauritius. The agreements were following as:
1. To supply an offshore petrol vessel
2. Cooperation in a tsunami early warning arrangement.
3. Agreement for cultural cooperation
4. Standardization, testing and quality certification.
Besides, these agreements India decided to extend a grant of 10 million US dollars and line of credit of 48.5 million us dollars. Mauritius at present is facing the problem of sea piracy.
Therefore, it needs a petrol vessel to deal with this.
To maintain a good relationship with Mauritius is significant for India because of the strategic location of Mauritius in Indian Ocean. It can help India to counter the sea piracy and establish its hold in the region of Indian Ocean. Mauritius is not only home to good number of Indian Diasporas but also an important trading partner of India. India established diplomatic relations with Mauritius in 1948.
