IndiGo lost 87.6 crore Rupees in 2011-2012 fiscal year, the Aviation Ministry revealed. IndiGo was operating in profits constantly in last three financial years. However, the airline contradicted Aviation Ministry and declared that it had earned profits in 2011-2012 fiscal year as well.
IndiGo is the 6-year-old airline and the largest airline of India in terms of domestic market share. The Aviation Ministry revealed that the low-cost carrier had the operating revenue of 5552.4 crore Rupees in fiscal year 2011-2012 against the operating cost of around 5640 crore Rupees, which meant that there was a loss of 87.6 crore Rupees. In the past three fiscal years, i.e., 2008-2009, 2009-2010 and 2010-2011, IndiGo had generated operating profits of 18 crore Rupees, 446.7 crore rupees and 602.5 crore Rupees respectively.
At present, India is the worst-performing domestic aviation industry across the world. There has been a deep fall in flyer numbers in India constantly.
