The Labour & Employment Ministry announced on October 8 that the government would establish ten new ESIC medical colleges and prolong the jobless benefits program for ESI Corporation members until June 2026.
The ministry released a statement stating that Mansukh Mandaviya, the Minister of Labour and Employment, made a number of significant announcements during an ESI Corporation meeting that will further strengthen the ESIC's medical facilities and infrastructure.
Gov to Establish New Medical Colleges
Mandaviya declared that ten New ESIC Medical Colleges would be opening in different parts of the nation. According to the ministry, this decision will reinforce the prime minister's commitment to create 75,000 new medical seats within the next five years during his speech on Independence Day (2024).
Unemployment Allowance for Two More Years
Furthermore, Mansukh Mandaviya has also extended the Atal Beemit Vyakti Kalyan Yojna for an additional two years, beginning on July 1, 2024, and ending on June 30, 2026.
The 2018 program aims to offer assistance in the form of an Unemployment Allowance to covered individuals as they look for new employment opportunities.

What is Atal Bimit Vyakti Kalyan Yojana?
Atal Bimit Vyakti Kalyan Yojana is a welfare scheme run by the Employee’s State Insurance (ESI) Corporation. It provides financial help to insured individuals in case they lose their jobs.
The scheme offers cash benefits equal to 50% of the person's average daily earnings from the last four contribution periods (calculated as total earnings during these periods divided by 730). This compensation is given to them for up to 90 days of unemployment, but only once in the insured person’s lifetime.
No Limit In Any Medical Expenditure for Beneficiaries
Additionally, it was planned to offer medical care to ESIC beneficiaries as part of a pan-Indian convergence initiative between ESIC and Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY). For ESIC-insured individuals, there will be no spending cap in PMJAY-empanelled hospitals.
