2nd World Congress on Marxism to be held in Beijing
The 2nd World Congress on Marxism is scheduled to be held in Peking University in Beijing in May 2018. The theme of this Congress is "Marxism and the current world and China".
The congress is expected to attract more than 300 Marxism researchers to discuss Marxism in the 21st century and its developments in China.
The congress coincides with the 200th anniversary of Karl Marx's birth and 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening-up. It will be a significant event for the world Marxism research and scientific socialism.
WHO removes Robert Mugabe as Goodwill Ambassador
The World Health Organisation (WHO) on 22 October 2017 cancelled the appointment of Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe's appointment as its Goodwill Ambassador for NCDs in Africa, following outrage among Western donors and rights groups at his appointment.
After days of sarcastic criticism from around the globe for naming Robert Mugabe as Goodwill Ambassador for health, WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus overturned the appointment.
Mugabe is blamed in the West for destroying Zimbabwe’s economy and for numerous human rights abuses during his 37 years tenure of leading the country as either President or Prime Minister.
Solicitor-General Ranjit Kumar resigns
Ranjit Kumar on 20 October 2017 resigned as the Solicitor-General of India, the second highest ranking law officer of the Union Government. Kumar cited personal reasons and family commitments for his decision to opt out.
Kumar's resignation came within months after the government gave him an extension. His tenure of three years as Solicitor General ended on 6 June 2017, but the government had extended the tenure on an ad hoc basis.
A successful senior advocate, Kumar joined the government’s team of law officers in the Supreme Court in 2014.
