Linkage of Aadhaar number to insurance policies mandatory: IRDA

The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDA) on 8 November 2017 stated that it is mandatory for the citizens to link Aadhar number to the insurance policies.

According to IRDA, the linkage is mandated under the "Prevention of Money-laundering (Maintenance of Records) Second Amendment Rules, 2017". "These rules have statutory force and, as such, life and general insurers (including standalone health insurers) have to implement them without awaiting further instructions," the authority stated.

Chennai to be part of UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network for contribution in Music

Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu has been included in United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO’s) Creative Cities Network for its contribution to music.

The city was one of the 64 cities that got the recognition of being UNESCO’s Creative Cities. With the development, the total number of cities in the UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network has gone up to 180 cities from 72 countries across the globe.

Chennai is the third Indian city to feature on the esteemed list. Jaipur and Varanasi were added to the network in 2016 for their contribution to music and crafts & folk art respectively.

HS Prannoy, Saina Nehwal beat title favourites to become new National Champions

H S Prannoy beat World No 2 and title favourite Kidambi Srikanth in the men’s singles final at the 82nd Senior National Championship, which was held in Nagpur, Maharashtra on 8 November 2017.

The second-seeded Prannoy, who achieved his career-best ranking of World No 11 last week, saw off top seeded Srikanth 21-15, 16-21, 21-7 in a 49-minute clash. In the women’s singles, World No 11 Saina Nahwal beat World No 2 PV Sindhu in straight sets of 21-17, 27-25 to win the National championship.
