Germany will now issue 90,000 visas to qualified Indian workers annually instead of the current 20,000, according to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's announcement on Friday. The news was reported by the news agency AFP.
This decision was taken during PM Modi’s three-day visit to Germany. Olaf Scholz, the chancellor of Germany, met with Modi to discuss trade cooperation between the two nations.
Germany Visa Quota Increased
Germany has announced a significant increase in the number of visas available for Indian citizens, raising the annual quota from 20,000 to 90,000. This change reflects a remarkable 350% increase in the number of visas issued, highlighting Germany's commitment to strengthening ties with India and facilitating greater opportunities for Indian professionals and students.
No Change for Unskilled Workers
The German Chancellor clarified, however, that they aimed to reduce the migration rates of people who were not regarded as "skilled" workers.
Most International Students from India
Currently, the majority of international students attending our universities are Indian. The number of Indians employed in Germany increased by 23,000 in only the past year. "We are glad to have that talent on our labor market," Scholz stated at the 18th Asia-Pacific Conference of German Business in 2024.
Germany Visa Process Simplified
According to AFP, Olaf Scholz also declared that his government will also simplify the process for visa. With the introduction of digital tools, faster processing, and more user-friendly measures, it will be easy to apply for Germany visa.
Increasing the number of visas for Indian workers and students will not only help those seeking opportunities in Germany but also strengthen cultural and economic ties between the two countries. This higher visa limit is expected to attract a diverse range of talented individuals from India, boosting Germany's workforce and promoting collaboration across various industries.
