No road tax on MPs and MLAs

The empowered group of ministers (E-GoM) led by Union finance minister of India Pranab Mukherjee decided on 20 May 2010 that Members of Parliament (MPs) and members of Legislative assemblies (MLAs) will not have to pay road tax.

The empowered group of ministers (E-GoM) led by Union finance minister of India Pranab Mukherjee decided on 20 May 2010 that Members of Parliament (MPs) and members of Legislative assemblies (MLAs) will not have to pay road tax. They will be exempted from paying the fee charged to commuters who use road services. Either the government provides the road service or any private body the exemption would be applicable. Even when MPs or MLAs will be on their personal visit other than their official visits they will not pay any tax.

The road tax, which, is, levied on the common public, is used for the maintenance and development of the highway being used.
