The President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain on 3 April 2015 promulgated the General Elections 2013 Inquiry Commission Ordinance 2015 to inquire into the organization and conduct of the 2013 elections.
The ordinance was promulgated on the demand of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) which alleged that the ruling party Pakistan Muslim league Nawaz (PML-N) was involved in rigging by printing fake ballot papers to win the elections.
The elections were held in May 2013 to elect members of the 14th National Assembley (lower house of the Parliament).
As per the ordinance a judicial commission will be set up by the Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan to investigate the PTI’s allegations.
The PTI party was founded by the former Pakistan cricket captain Imran Khan on 25 April 1996.
