Indian cricketers, Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag on 5 January 2011found place in ICC's all-time greatest One-Day International team. The names of the cricketers to be included in the ICC Dream Team were picked through an online poll by fans from across the world to mark the 40th anniversary of ODIs. The 1983 World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev was included in the team as the lone all-rounder . However the retired Sourav Ganguly failed to make the grade. The momentous game between South Africa and Australia in Johannesburg in 2006 was voted the best ODI yet by fans.
The first-ever ODI was played between Australia and England on 5 January 1971 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
The all-time ODI Dream Team as voted includes:
Opening batsmen-Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag (both India)
Middle order- Brian Lara, Viv Richards (both West Indies) and Ricky Ponting (Australia).
All-rounder- Kapil Dev (India)
Wicketkeeper- Adam Gilchrist (Australia)
Spinner- Muttiah Muralidaran (Sri Lanka)
Fast bowlers-Wasim Akram (Pakistan), Glenn McGrath (Australia) and Allan Donald (South Africa)
12th man- Michael Bevan (Australia)
