The Indian Government on 24 December 2010 announced the appointment of Sanjeev Tripathi as the new chief of the India's external intelligence agency, the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW). Tripathi is currently the head of the Aviation Research Centre (ARC). The ARC is a part of RAW.
Sanjeev Tripathi who will take charge on 30 December 2010 for a two year term originally belongs to the Uttar Pradesh cadre of the 1973 batch of the Indian Police Service. He in probability be the first RAW chief from the RAS (RAW Allied Services) cadre to head the organisation, since it came to existence more than four decades ago.
He succeeds K. C. Verma, who recently expressed his desire to quit a month ahead of his tenure ending on 31 January 2011.
