Scientists Rediscovered Terrible Hairy Fly

Scientists rediscovered on 8 December 2010, world’s rarest fly known as Mormotomyia Hirsuta in Ukazi Hill, east of Nairobi (capital of Kenya).

Scientists rediscovered on 8 December 2010, world’s rarest fly known as Mormotomyia Hirsuta in Ukazi Hill, east of Nairobi (capital of Kenya). Robert Copeland and Ashley Kirk-Spriggs rediscovered the fly. The fly has relatively large size and non-functional wings. It cannot fly.
The mission to discover the fly was led by the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE). ICIPE is an organisation whose objective is to reduce poverty and improve health and food security.
The fly was discovered earlier on two occasions, in 1933 and 1948.
