Serena Williams of US won the Women's Italian Tennis Open 2014 on 18 May 2014. She defeated World No. 11 Sara Errani of Italy 6-3, 6-0 in the final held in Rome, Italy.
This was the third Italian Open won by Serena. For the first time she won the Italian Open in 2002 and the second Italian Open was won by her in 2013.
Also, the win gave Serena her 60th WTA titles and as a result she moved to Number 7 position on the all-time list for most WTA titles.
The six highest on the all-time list for most WTA titles are Martina Navratilova (who won 167 WTA titles), Chris Evert (154), Steffi Graf (107), Margaret Court (92), Evonne Goolagong Cawley (68) and Billie Jean King (67).
Besides, Errani is the first Italian to make to the final of Italian Open since 1985.
In the men's section, Novak Djokovic of Serbia defeated Rafael Nadal of Spain to win the Italian Open for the third time.
