Indian Social activist Arvind Kejriwal on 6 October 2012 launched a Bijli-Paani Satyagraha in New Delhi to protest against inflated power and water bills and hike in tariffs by restoring electricity connection to the household of a labourer which was disconnected for non-payment of bills

Indian Social activist Arvind Kejriwal on 6 October 2012 launched a Bijli-Paani Satyagraha in New Delhi to protest against inflated power and water bills and hike in tariffs by restoring electricity connection to the household of a labourer which was disconnected for non-payment of bills.

The protest was launched at Tigri Colony in New Delhi where Kejriwal and his supporters restored the power connection of the labourer. The labourer claimed that he got a bill for Rs 15000 last month and connection disconnected as he could not pay it.
Arvind Kejriwal told the masses to Stop paying electricity and water bills till Delhi government withdraws tariff hikes.

 Arvind Kejriwal had given ultiamtum to the Delhi government that the government must roll back the hike before November three or they will protest again on November 4 and gherao Sheila Dikshit's house he had challenged the government to try to cut the electricity of anyone in Delhi.

In response to Arvind Kejriwal effort People in 62 assemblies and 114 wards in Delhi burnt their electricity bills to protest against the steep hike in electricity tariff.

The Chief Minister of Delhi Sheila Dixit opposing the Kejriwal effort appealed to people in the city not to follow Kejriwal and respect rule of law.
