A proposed oil pipeline from Alberta to British Columbia in Canada is posing a threat to the existence of Spirit bears. These spirit bears are commonly mistaken for albino black bears or polar bears. Spirit bear is a subspecies of the black bear that often has white fur because of an uncommon genetic trait.
There are only 500 spirit bears left in the world. Spirit bears are also known as Kermodo bears and Canada’s Pandas. The Spirit bears are revered by First Nations tribes in British Columbia.
