Singh’s tenure as the Uttar Pradesh DGP is expected to be short as his superannuation is due in September 2017. Sulkhan Singh is a 1980 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer. He was currently posted in the Training Department of UP police.

Sulkhan Singh succeeds Javeed Ahmed, who was transferred to a lower rank. Ahmed will now serve as the Director General of the Uttar Pradesh Provincial Armed Constabulary.

Apart from Ahmed, senior police official Bhavesh Singh was appointed as Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence) whereas, Aditya Mishra was elevated as Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order).

These changes in bureaucratic appointments came after the Uttar Pradesh Government recently conducted its second major bureaucratic reshuffle by transferring 44 IAS officers. The first such bureaucratic reshuffle was carried out on 12 April 2017 which involved 20 IAS officers.
