The Supreme Court of India on 9 October 2012 asked the Union government to notify within a week its fresh guidelines on tiger conservation. A division bench of the apex court indicated it may modify its July order issued on 24 July 2012 which stayed all tourism activities in the reserved areas across the country. The bench, however, made it clear that the states, if aggrieved by the guidelines, are free to challenge it before the court.
The apex court on 24 July 2012 had banned all tourist activities in the core areas of tiger reserves and had extended the ban till 27 September 2012.
