Veteran agricultural scientist M. S. Swaminathan was conferred the CNN-IBN Indian of the Year 2010 Lifetime Achievement Award on 26 December 2010. Swaminathan was awarded for his outstanding leadership in the field of agriculture that has contributed to ensuring food security for millions of Indians. He had worked consistently towards hunger-free world with the help of his innovative concepts of sustainable development, especially with eco-friendly techniques of agriculture, food availability, and biodiversity conservation. The award was presented by Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was chosen CNN-IBN Indian of the Year 2010.
