The Telengana bill dividing Andhra Pradesh was passed in the Lok Sabha on 18 February 2014. The Lok Sabha passed the Andhra Pradesh Re-organisation Bill 2014 that aims to create the 29th State of India.
The Bill saw the light of the day in the Lok Sabha due to support from the main opposition party in the Lok Sabha Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP).
Moving the bill for consideration and passage, the Centre announced that the Union Government will give special financial package to Seemandhra, residual part of Andhra Pradesh, to address the grievances of the people of Seemandhra region.
