Retired Punjab cadre IAS officer T.K.A. Nair was appointed Adviser to the Prime Minister on 28 July 2011. He had served as the Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for seven years. He will take charge as Adviser to the Prime Minister from 3 October 2011.
Nair, a retired IAS officer of 1963 batch, was given the rank and status of Minister of State in the PMO.
Nair was replaced by Pulok Chatterji as Principal Secretary to Prime Minister. Pulok Chatterji is a 1974 batch Uttar Pradesh cadre IAS officer who was in the PMO in the United Progressive Alliance's first tenure and who is currently Executive Director in the World Bank.
