Gravitational waves detected for fourth time by scientists
Scientists on 27 September 2017 announced that they have detected a fourth gravitational wave signal coming from the merger of two black holes.
It is the first time that this phenomenon has been measured simultaneously by both the US-based LIGO and Italy-based Virgo detectors.The detection was described in a paper that will soon be published in Physical Review Letters.
Central Government increased Doctors Retirement age to 65 years
Prime Minister Narendra Modi led Union Cabinet has approved the suggestion to increase the retirement age of doctors to 65 years.
The decision is expected to help in better patient care, better academic activities in Medical institutes and colleges as also it will help in effective and better implementation of National Health Programmes (NHP) for delivery of health care services.
It is also expected to benefit around 1445 doctors under various Departments/Ministries of the Central Government.
World Maritime Day observed globally
The World Maritime Day was celebrated across the world on 28 September 2017 with the theme ‘Connecting Ships, Ports and People’.
The idea behind introducing the theme is to provide an opportunity to focus on the many diverse actors involved in the shipping and logistics areas. Its main objective is to build on the World Maritime Day theme for 2016, ‘Shipping: indispensable to the world’.
Cabinet approves pact between India and Ethiopia on cooperation in communication field
The Union Cabinet led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 27 September 2017 gave its approval to the agreement between India and Ethiopia on cooperation in the field of Information, Communication and Media.
The pact mainly aims to enhance people to people contact through exchange programmes. It would provide an opportunity for both the nations to share the best practices and latest innovations in the field of Information, Communication and Media.
National Disaster Management Authority celebrates 13th Formation Day
The 13th Formation Day of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) was celebrated in New Delhi on 28 September 2017 with the theme ‘School Safety’. The event was inaugurated by the Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh.
The discussions at the event aimed to increase awareness and ensure better implementation of the School Safety guidelines.
