1. (a) Saurabh Chaudhary
The Day 3 of Asian Games 2018 began with shooters Saurabh Chaudhary, Abhishek Verma and Sanjeev Rajput adding three more medals to India’s medal account, taking the total medal tally to 8, comprising 3 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals. While the 16-year-old Indian shooter, Saurabh Choudhary won gold in 10m Air Pistol event with Asiad record, Abhishek Verma bagged bronze.
2. (d) Rajya Sabha Elections
The Supreme Court has ruled that the ‘None of The Above’ (NOTA) option will not be applicable for voting in the Rajya Sabha elections. The bench held that the NOTA option is meant only for universal adult suffrage and direct elections.
3. (b) Vinesh Phogat
Wrestler Vinesh Phogat brought home the second gold medal for India with a 6-2 win over Japan's Irie Yuki in women's 50kg freestyle wrestling. It is Phogat's second Asiad medal after winning a bronze medal in the women's freestyle 48 kg category at Incheon in 2014. With the win, she created history by becoming the first Indian woman wrestler to win a gold medal at the Asian Games.
4. (c) Madras HC
The Madras High Court has ordered the Central Board of Secondary Education to publicise in media that stringent action would be taken against institutes not following the board's 'no homework' rule for class 1 and 2 students. The high court had earlier directed the Centre to instruct the state governments to make sure that no school in the country prescribed homework for students studying in Classes I and II.
5. (a) IIT
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) will mentor at least five engineering colleges located in its vicinity, in order to improve the quality and standard of engineering education in the country. The IIT – PAL, which has been designed to help the students in preparing for the JEE Advanced Exam, would be extended and made available along with handholding support through the SWAYAM portal.
6. (b) Drug menace
The Chief Ministers of the Northern States have unanimously decided to set up a joint secretariat at Panchkula for data and information sharing to effectively tackle the issue of drug menace in their respective states.
7. (c) Track Cycling
Teen cyclist Esow Alben has created history by claiming India's first ever medal - a silver- at the UCI Junior Track Cycling World Championships in Aigle, Switzerland. The 17-year-old from Andaman and Nicobar trains in Delhi at the Sports Authority of India's National Cycling Academy.
8. (d) Gopalkrishna Gandhi
Former West Bengal Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi was on August 20, 2018 conferred with Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhavana Award on the occasion of 74th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
9. (b) Japan
India and Japan on August 20, 2018 resolved to expand their maritime cooperation and work together to ensure peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region, which is witnessing growing Chinese assertiveness. The two sides also firmed up a project in the area of Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) and robotics, marking the start of first such bilateral initiative.
10. (a) Ceramic
Researchers from the City University of Hong Kong (CityU) have successfully developed the world's first-ever 4D printing for ceramics that can be used to create complex, shape-changing objects.The researchers made use of the elastic energy stored in the stretched precursors for shape morphing. When the stretched ceramic precursors are released, they undergo self-reshaping.
