The Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs, Arun Jaitley has launched the National CSR Data Portal & Corporate Data Portal to enable greater transparency in corporate governance and promote accountability to the public at large.

India’s Manav Thakkar climbed to World Number 2 spot in the boys' under-18 category while Diya Chitale rose to Number 5 in the girls' under-15 category in the International Table Tennis Federation rankings. Thakkar's jump has been particularly phenomenal as he moved from 18th to his current position.

Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has announced the names of nine more smart cities, which takes the total tally to 99.The selected cities include Union Territory Dadra and Nagar Haveli’s capital Silvassa, Erode in Tamil Nadu, Diu in Union Territory of Daman and Diu, Biharsharif in Bihar, Bareilly, Saharanpur and Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh and Arunachal Pradesh and Lakshadweep’s capital cities Itanagar and Kavaratti respectively.

The International Dam Safety Conference- 2018 began on January 23, 2018 at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The conference is a part of DRIP project, which aims to achieve rehabilitation of old dams in the country that may be experiencing distress and are in need of attention for ensuring their structural safety and operational efficiency.

The 48th annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) has begun in Davos, Switzerland with the theme 'Creating a Shared Future in a Fractured World'. The summit would witness participation from over 3,000 world leaders, business patrons, academicians, philanthropists and politicians from across the world.

China on January 22, 2018 invited the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) to join its ‘One Belt, One Road’ initiative, as part of an agreement to deepen economic and political cooperation in a region where US influence is historically strong.

Soloman Deksisa from Ethiopia won the 15th edition of Tata Mumbai Marathon in men’s category on January 22, 2018. Another Ethiopian, Shumit Akalnaw became the first runner-up, while Joshua Kipkorir from Kenya came second.
8. (b) Arunachal Pradesh
Pema Khandu, the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, inaugurated the World War II Memorial Museum in Jairampur in Changlang District on January 21, 2018. The war memorial has the collection of the remnants of World War 2, personal belongings of the soldiers and other persons involved.
9. (c) Sudeep Lakhtakia
Sudeep Lakhtakia, the 1984-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, has been appointed as the new Director-General of National Security Guard (NSG) and will hold the post till July 2019. He will take over from S P Singh, the current chief of the elite counter terror force, who retires on January 31, 2018.

‘Hindi Medium’, directed by Saket Chaudhary, bagged honours in the categories of Best Film and Best Actor in a Leading Role (Male) for Irrfan Khan’s impeccable performance at the 63rd Jio Filmfare Awards 2018.
11. (a) IGI Airport
A replica of the iconic Qutub Minar made out of municipal waste, which cost nearly Rs 16 lakh, has been erected in a newly-created street roundabout near the Delhi international airport. Lt Governor Anil Baijal inaugurated the project, alongside a beautified site underneath the Mahipalpur flyover in south Delhi.
12. (b) Himachal Pradesh
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on January 22, 2018 launched a state-level nutrition scheme for HIV-positive children. The nutrition scheme was launched during a campaign organised by the AIDS Control Society of Himachal Pradesh on the occasion of National Youth Day.
