ANSWERS

1. (a) Lok Sabha
The Lok Sabha on December 27, 2018 passed the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2018, also known as, Triple Talaq Bill. Two hundred forty-five members of the Lok Sabha voted in favour of the bill, while 11 voted against it.

2. (b) Maharashtra
The Maharashtra Government on December 27, 2018 implemented the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission, a move that is expected to benefit as many as 20.50 lakh employees of the state government.

3. (c) India
Train 18 officially became India’s fastest train, which ran at a speed of 180 kilometers per hour during a trial run. The first trial run of the train was conducted on Bareilly-Moradabad railway section.

4. (d) Reserve Bank of India
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on December 26, 2018 launched a 'Survey on Retail Payment Habits of Individuals (SRPHi)'. The survey will capture payment habits of individuals in six cities, including four metropolitan towns.

Andhra Pradesh got its own High Court on December 26, 2018. It will start functioning from January 1, 2019. Ministry of Law and Justice notified the constitution of the High Court in Amaravati.

The Indian Railways has announced that it has decided to grant 40-per-cent concession in passenger fares to transgender senior citizens. The Railways offers concessions on ticket prices to 53 different categories, ranging from 10-100 per cent.

The United Arab Emirates announced on December 28, 2018 that it will resume its diplomatic services at its embassy in Damascus in Syria after six years of suspension. The move signals a thaw in the relations between the two countries, as also with the Arab world.

CA Kuttappa, a Dhronacharya awardee, took over as India’s new chief boxing coach during the beginning of the ongoing national camp, on December 10, 2018. He succeeds veteran boxing coach SR Singh, who has now retired.

9. (d) Virat Kohli
Skipper Virat Kohli on December 27, 2018 bettered Rahul Dravid's long-standing record of most runs scored by an Indian in a calendar year overseas, adding another feather to his illustrious cap. With 82 runs at the MCG on the second day of the third Test against Australia, Kohli now has 1138 runs to his name. Dravid held the record for scoring 1137 runs in Tests away from home in 2002.

10. (b) Bhubaneswar
The 42nd Indian Social Science Congress (ISSC) was inaugurated by Manipur Governor Najma Heptulla on December 27, 2018 at the KIIT campus in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.  The ISSC is an annual meet of social scientists organised by Indian Social Science Academy (ISSA). The event’s theme this year is 'Human Future in Digital Era'.
