1. (a) Gary Oldman
Gary Oldman won the Oscar award for ‘Best Actor’ for his performance as Winston Churchill in the Second World War drama Darkest Hour. The actor, who had been considered the strong favourite in the category, overcame competition from fellow British nominees Daniel Kaluuya and Daniel Day-Lewis to take home the prize.

The wreck of a US aircraft carrier that sunk during World War Two has been found off the coast of Australia. The United States navy stated that the ship - Lexington - along with 11 of its 35 aircrafts was discovered by a search team led by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen on March 4, 2018.

Biplab Kumar Deb will be sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Tripura. The BJP State President was unanimously elected as the leader of the legislature party after a meeting of the newly elected members of BJP and its ally - Indigenous People's Front of Tripura in Agartala on March 5. The meeting also decided that Jishnu Debbarman will be the state’s Deputy Chief Minister. The oath-taking ceremony will be held on March 9.

The Sri Lankan government has decided to impose a nation-wide emergency for 10 days to control law and order, following violence against minority community in Kandy district over the last two days. The measure comes after a local curfew was imposed on March 5 in the central city of Kandy, after days of unrest between Buddhist and Muslim groups.
