The head of Buddhist sect Drukpa Lineage, Gyalwang Drukpa, and his global charity ‘Live To Love' won the United Nation Millennium Development Goals Award on 24 Sept 2010. Live To Love' builds eco-friendly schools that aims at teaching young women leadership skills. The Druk White Lotus School, where some scenes of blockbuster ‘3 Idiots' were shot is situated in Ladakh region and is run by Buddhist sect. The Druk White Lotus School won numerous awards including World Architecture Awards for Best Green Building, Best Education Building and Best Building in Asia. The school's objective is to provide an effective modern education while maintaining traditional values and cultures.
The annual Millennium Development Goals Awards provide a platform to raise awareness about the critical work of the United Nations. The award acknowledges as well as celebrates exceptional work of select national governments and individuals contributing to the achievement of Millennium Development Goals around the world. The first Millennium Development Goals Awards ceremony was held in March 2009 in New York.
