23 June: United Nations Public Service Day
The United Nations Public Service Day was celebrated on 23 June 2014. The theme for 2014 is Innovating Governance for Sustainable Development and Well-being of the People.
The day was celebrated every year to mark the invaluable contributions of public servants and administrators in an effort to build a better world for all.
About the day
The UN Public Service Day is intended to celebrate the value and virtue of public service to the community. It highlights the contribution of public service in the development process and recognizes the work of public servants.
It also encouraged young people to pursue careers in the public sector.
On this day the UN awards the United Nations Public Service Award. The awards are the most prestigious international recognition of excellence in public service.
The award Ceremony was established in 2003.
