The state government of Uttarakhand on 28 August 2012 announced a substantial increase in land compensation to victims. The land compensation to victims in hilly areas was increased from 240 rupees per nali (land area) to 2500 rupees per nali.

In the plains, such compensation was increased from 12000 rupees per hectare to 1.25 lakh rupees per hectare. Besides, the government decided to have one Secretary who will head both the departments, horticulture and agriculture. The state government would also modernize mandi samitis and make them hi-tech and introduce contract farming in the state.
