India skipper Virat Kohli became the fastest cricketer to score 12,000 ODI runs on December 2, 2020, breaking the record held by legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar.
Kohli reached the milestone during India's third and last ODI against Australia at Manuka Oval, Canberra. He needed 23 runs to reach the landmark before coming into the match.
The 32-year-old touched the landmark figure during his 242nd innings when he took a single off Sean Abbott's delivery in the 13th over. The Indian captain was playing his 251st ODI. He was dismissed at 63 runs, caught behind by Alex Carey in delivery by Josh Hazlewood.

Veteran Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar took 300 innings to reach the milestone. Tendulkar has scored 18426 runs from 463 ODIs at an average of 44.83 between 1989 and 2012 , which includes 49 centuries and 96 half-centuries.
