August 7 was not a good day at the Paris Olympics 2024, India's star wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who reached the Olympic wrestling final for the first time, has been disqualified due to her overweight. Let us tell you that Phogat had made her place in the gold medal match by defeating Cuba's Yusnelis Guzman Lopez 5-0. After Vinesh's disqualification from the final, the gold medal match will be between Sarah Ann Hildebrandt and Yusneylis Guzman Lopez (Cuba).

2. (b) Muhammad Yunus

Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus has been appointed the head of the interim government of Bangladesh, the President's press secretary said in a statement late night. Let us tell you that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had resigned and left the country after the deadly protests. Meanwhile, Bangladesh's first woman Prime Minister Khaleda Zia has also been released from house arrest.   

3. (c) K. Kailashnathan

K Kailashnathan has recently taken oath as the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry. At the swearing-in ceremony held at Raj Nivas, Acting Chief Justice of Madras High Court D. Krishnakumar administered the oath of office and secrecy to him. Chief Minister N Rangasamy, his cabinet colleagues and top officials of the UT administration attended the function.

4. (c) West Bengal

Former West Bengal Chief Minister and senior CPI(M) leader Buddhadeb Bhattacharya passed away at the age of 80, he breathed his last at his residence in Kolkata. Buddhadeb Bhattacharya was the Chief Minister of West Bengal from 2000 to 2011. He was the last Marxist Chief Minister and assumed the post after Jyoti Basu.

5. (b) Reliance Industries

Reliance Industries Limited has become the highest ranked Indian company in the Fortune Global 500 list. In the ranking for the year 2024, Reliance has climbed two places to reach the 86th position. The 2024 ranking includes nine Indian companies, five of which are from the public sector. SBI has climbed up 57 places to reach 178th position.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has maintained the repo rate at 6.5% for the ninth consecutive time. Also, the central bank has kept the key interest rate unchanged. RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das revealed the decision after the three-day Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting.

7. (b) Silver

In the javelin throw event at the Paris Olympics 2024, India's Neeraj Chopra performed brilliantly and won the silver medal with his season's best throw (89.45m). Meanwhile, Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan won the gold medal with an Olympic record. Anderson Peters of Grenada won the bronze medal with a throw of 88.54 metres.

8. (b) Harmanpreet Singh

The Indian men's hockey team came back from a goal down to beat Spain 2-1 and win the bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Along with this, experienced goalkeeper PR Sreejesh has also announced his retirement from hockey. India has won consecutive medals in hockey for the first time since Munich 1972, played 52 years ago. The Netherlands team won the gold medal and Germany won the silver medal.

9. (b) Karnataka and Kerala

Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Shri Bhupendra Yadav has recently declared Adichunchanagiri in Karnataka and Chulannuar in Kerala as peacock sanctuaries. He also said that many measures are being taken for the conservation of the national bird and the ministry has also established breeding and conservation centres for peacocks.

10. (c) Rs 5 lakh

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has given a big relief to UPI consumers. The central bank has increased the limit for payments through UPI from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh. This decision was taken in the recent Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting. Earlier the payment limit for UPI was Rs 1 lakh.
