1. (a) Justice B V Nagarathna

The SC Collegium headed by CJI N V Ramana, has taken a historic decision to recommend three women, among nine, for appointment as judges of the Supreme Court. Among the three, one of them, Justice B V Nagarathna, could go on to become the first woman CJI in February 2027.

2. (b) Maulvi Haibatullah Akhundzada

Maulvi Haibatullah Akhundzada is the Supreme Leader of the Taliban since 2016. He was appointed after his predecessor, Mullah Mansour Akhtar, was killed in a US drone strike in 2016.

Ahmad Shah Massoud was called the “Lion of Panjshir”. He was a famed Afghan resistance commander during the Afghan-Soviet war in the 1980s.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on August 18, 2021 partially lifted the digital ban on HDFC Bank. The move has allowed the bank to start issuing new credit cards again. 

10. (c) Amrullah Saleh 

Afghanistan's First Vice President Amrullah Saleh declared himself as the legitimate caretaker President of Afghanistan on Tuesday, 17 August 2021. Saleh announced that he is in the country and vowed a new fight with the Taliban.

11. (d) China

China's national legislature formally approved a three-child policy on August 20, 2021, marking a major policy shift to prevent a steep decline in the birth rate. The move marks an end to the world's most populous country's strict two-child policy rule.

Zambia’s opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema won the country’s presidential election with a landslide victory over incumbent President Edgar Lungu, stated the Electoral Commission of Zambia on August 16, 2021.
