ANSWERS

1. (a) Lok Sabha
The Lok Sabha on December 27, 2018 passed the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2018, also known as, Triple Talaq Bill. Two hundred forty-five members of the Lok Sabha voted in favour of the bill, while 11 voted against it.

2. (c) India
Train 18 officially became India’s fastest train, which ran at a speed of 180 kilometers per hour during a trial run. The first trial run of the train was conducted on Bareilly-Moradabad railway section.

3. (c) Sadaiv Atal
To mark the birth anniversary of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, his Samadhi ‘Sadaiv Atal’ was dedicated to the nation. President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid floral tributes at the Samadhi. The development work of the Samadhi was undertaken by the Atal Smriti Nyas Society.

4. (d) Assam
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Bogibeel Bridge in Assam on the birth anniversary of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The bridge is part of infrastructure projects planned by India to improve logistics along the border in Arunachal Pradesh.

NITI Aayog on December 27, 2018 released the Second Delta Ranking of the Aspirational Districts Programme (ADP). Virudhunagar District of Tamil Nadu was ranked as the most improved district in the Rankings. The ranking represented the incremental progress made by districts between June 1, 2018 and October 31, 2018.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), in consultation with the Union Government, on December 26, 2018 constituted an Expert Committee on Economic Capital Framework. The Committee will be headed by Bimal Jalan, while, former secretary Rakesh Mohan was named as the Vice Chairman.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will rename three islands of Andaman and Nicobar after Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose on December 30, 2018. These three islands are - Ross Island, Neil Island and Havelock Island.

8. (b) Harsh Vardhan Shringla
India appointed Harsh Vardhan Shringla as the next Ambassador of India to the United States on December 20, 2018. Harsh Vardhan Shringla, a 1984-batch Indian Foreign Service diplomat, will succeed Navtej Sarna.

9. (c) Thailand
Thailand on December 25, 2018 approved the licensed use of marijuana for medical use and research. The changes will legalise the production, import, export, possession and use of marijuana products for medical purposes.

10. (a) Andhra Pradesh
Andhra Pradesh got its own High Court on December 26, 2018. It will start functioning from January 1, 2019. Ministry of Law and Justice notified the constitution of the High Court in Amaravati.
