1. (a) India
According to UN World Migration Report (2018), India has largest diaspora in the world with more than 15.6 million people from India living overseas. Of the international migrants (people living outside the country of their birth) which was estimated at 243 million in 2015, the Indian diaspora constitutes nearly 6 per cent.
2. (b) Uttar Pradesh
The Uttar Pradesh government recently launched a free household power connection scheme ‘Prakash hai to vikas hai’ for the poor in the state to mark former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s birthday. Initially, the two village Lohban and Gausana of Mathura district have been covered for 100% electrification.
3. (c) USD 318 million
India on 26 December 2017 signed USD 318 million Loan Agreement with the World Bank for Tamil Nadu Irrigated Agriculture Modernization Project to promote climate resilient agriculture technologies, improve water management practices and increase market opportunities for farmers in the state.
4. (b) Bengaluru
Bengaluru became India's first city to have its own logo just like New York and Paris. All the cultural events and important public services will be marked with this new logo of Bengaluru. The logo unveiled is a 180 degree straight line with Bengaluru amalgamated in Kannada and English. The tagline 'Bengaluru - Be U' (be you) is expected to build the city's image on the global stage.
5. (d) Lakshadweep Islands
India is all set to get its first runway on a ‘sea bridge’, as the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has been given a nod to extend Lakshadweep’s Agatti Airport. The task will be carried out by building an RCC platform on the beach and shallow area which will allow bigger ATRs to operate on the island. The Project is likely to cost about Rs 1500 crore.

The world’s longest glass bridge was opened in China to the public. Though it has a capacity to hold 2000 people, only 500 would be allowed at a time. The magnificent bridge lies 218 meters above hanging between the two cliffs in Hongyagu Scenic Area in Pingshan County.

Bollywood star Anushka Sharma has been named the PETA 2017 Person of the Year for her wide-reaching work for animals. According to PETA’s Associate Director Sachin Bangera, the actor is a proud animal rights proponent whose kindness and initiative know no bounds.

The Delhi High Court in a recent ruling held that no one has the right to indiscriminately use any open land, especially that belonging to the government, as a burial ground.The judgement was passed by a bench of Justices comprising Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar on a PIL that challenged a sub-divisional magistrate's order questioning the use of a government land in Uttam Nagar in West Delhi as a burial ground.

The Parliament of Israel passed a controversial law on 28 December 2017, limiting the police's ability to recommend charges following their investigations after criticism that lawmakers were seeking to protect Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Ex-football superstar George Weah has been announced as the winner of Liberia's presidential run-off, beating Vice President Joseph Boakai in the first democratic transfer of power in decades following two devastating civil wars. Weah is set to replace incumbent Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, who took over at the helm of Africa's oldest republic in 2006.

After the United States, it is Guatemala, which has announced that it would be moving its embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. The announcement was made by the Central American country’s President Jimmy Morales through a post on his official social media page, Facebook, in which he wrote that he has given instructions to the foreign ministry to start necessary coordination for moving the embassy to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv.

The DoNER, Space and Public Grievances & Pensions Minister, Jitendra Singh launched the electronic-Human Resource Management System (e-HRMS) in Delhi on 25 December 2017.The Minister launched the 25 applications of 5 modules of the system. The system will give a comprehensive and combined view of the human resource deployed by the Government.

Russia on 21 December 2017 signed an agreement with Sudan to build a nuclear power plant in the nation. The information was shared by Russia’s nuclear agency Rosatom. The agreement follows up on the high-level meeting that took place between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Sudanese counterpart Omar al-Bashir in November 2017.
