1. (a) February 1st 
The Union budget will be presented in the parliament on February 1, 2021. The budget session of the parliament will be conducted in two phases. The first phase will begin on January 29 and conclude on February 15 and the second will be held from March 8 to April 8.

2. (a) Saree 
Renowned Fashion designer Satya Paul passed away on January 6, 2021. He was 79. He was known for giving a contemporary and modern look to the Indian saree. 

3. (a) US 
The US Capitol building saw incidents of violence and destruction when supporters of President Donald Trump stormed the building and breached its security to enter the premises. The lawmakers had to be evacuated to safety. 

4. (d) Madhya Pradesh
Madhya Pradesh government launched the launch pad scheme for the welfare of the young boys and girls coming out of the child care institutions.

The centre has decided to form a committee for the protection of the language, culture and land of the Union Territory of Ladakh.

The scientist who discovered the Ebola virus in 1976 has warned against an unknown number of new and potentially fatal viruses faced by humanity, among which is a deadly disease called 'Disease X'. This came after a woman from a remote town in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, was found suffering from symptoms of a hemorrhagic fever similar to Ebola, which could have been caused by an unidentified deadly pathogen.

8. (d) Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a law that sanctions the ‘Second Optional Protocol’ to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. The protocol entails a formal commitment to abolishing the death penalty.

India recently released a draft Arctic Policy document to get public comments. India aims to contribute to ensuring that as the Arctic becomes more accessible, its resources are harnessed sustainably. 

10. (c) Japan
A Japanese Company and Kyoto University have decided to collaborate to develop the world’s first wooden satellites by 2023. The research has already started on tree growth and the use of wooden materials in space.

11. (a) Russia 
A well-preserved Ice Age woolly rhino was found in the permafrost in Yakutia, Russia's extreme north with many of its internal organs still intact. The remains of the animal are so well-preserved that most of its soft tissues are still intact, including a part of the intestines, thick hair and a lump of fat.

12. (a) New Zealand 
New Zealand has toppled Australia to take up the top spot in the Test rankings. The Kane Williamson-led side became the number one test side in the world after its massive victory against Pakistan in the second test.
