Nima Rinji Sherpa, an 18-year-old mountain climber from Nepal, made history on Wednesday by being the youngest person to reach the top of all 14 of the world's 8,000-meter (26,246-foot) peaks. He achieved this remarkable feat after successfully completing his climb of 26,335-foot Shisha Pangma in Tibet.
Nima Rinji Sherpa reached the top of Tibet's 26,335-foot Shisha Pangma on October 9, 2024. This was his final climb to complete his goal of conquering all 14 of the world's mountains that are over 8,000 meters tall.
Who is Nima Rinji Sherpa?
Nima Rinji Sherpa is descended from a family of accomplished mountaineers, including some of the record-breaking climbers.
Today, his family runs the biggest mountaineering adventure firm in Nepal, demonstrating the Sherpas' indispensable role in excursions at high altitudes.
Nima started his high-altitude climbing career at the age of 16, when he climbed Mount Manaslu in August 2022. By June 2024, he had reached the top of his 13th mountain, Kanchenjunga, the third-highest peak in the world.
In 2023, Nima climbed Mount Everest (29,032 feet), the tallest mountain in the world, and on the same day, he also reached the summit of Mount Lhotse (27,940 feet), another of the eight-thousanders.

A total of 14 mountains are above 8,000m in height. Ten of them are found in Asia's Himalayan Mountain Range and the remaining four are in the Karakoram Mountain Range, which runs across China, Pakistan, India, and Nepal.

The previous record holder for climbing all 14 of the world's highest summits was Nepali climber Mingma Gyabu "David" Sherpa, who achieved the feat in 2019 at the age of thirty.
