The World Bank approved on 21 December 2010, 1.5 billion dollar credit and loan for India’s Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana. The project is to focus on Jharkahnd, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Meghalaya and Himachal Pradesh.The loan was given by the International Development Association (IDA), the lending arm of the World Bank.
Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna, also called Prime Minister’s Rural Road’s programme was established in 2000, with the aim of improving accessibility of roads to rural areas. This scheme has since constructed 274000 km of new roads.
